The Mirror in the Woods: And The Bad Boyfriend is a short story about a group of
teenagers. The main character is Kelly. She finds a mirror in the woods behind her house.
The mirror is no ordinary mirror. When Kelly looks into it, she can see into people’s lives.
The first person that she looks into is Lily. She can see Lily’s room, and she walks into the
mirror and into Lily’s body. Lily just bought a red bikini, and she tries it on. She wants Kelly
to buy a red bikini because the neighborhood pool is opening soon. The girls want to make
a good impression on the boys who will be there. Kelly’s brother Jacob is a huge guy who
can beat up anybody. He doesn’t want Kelly to buy a red bikini because he doesn't want to
have to beat up any guys who try to hit on her. Kelly also has a friend named Gina. Gina is
sort of going out with a boy named Patrick. Patrick is very demanding and likes to tell Gina
how she will dress and what she can or cannot do. This is very upsetting to Gina, and she
is always crying about what she can do in the situation. She is afraid to break up with
Patrick and just be friends, but Patrick thinks otherwise.
I enjoyed reading the book because it was cute and explored the problems teenagers face
in relationships. It brought me back to a time, long ago, when I was a teenager. There was
nothing to dislike about the book, as the author did a good job of relating to the problems
teenagers face. Some of them are silly to us, like whether to wear a bikini for the first time.
The book was professionally edited, as I did not pick up on any errors. The book contains
slight profanity and no sexual content, so it is suitable for young teens. I am awarding this book 5
out of 5 stars, as it was a joy to read. If you want to read a clean, short story about
growing up, you will love this book
